Political uprising and instability in the Middle East caused gas prices to spike to a record high for February, with summer’s peak season still months away. The Department of Energy (DoE) forecasts that gas prices for the average household will increase $700 this year.
Take a closer look. Last year, fuel expenses for the average household were $2,535. In 2011, it’s predicted they will be $3,235. Those figures are taken from DoE averages of 20,251 miles driven, at 22.6 miles per gallon, with gasoline at $3.61.
