The Seven Hills Scooter Club headed out today on its monthly ride. After a quick warm up in Hollywood Cemetery, we raced eastward to Roxbury in Charles City County via Darbytown Road/Charles City Road – a long, ancient highway with little interruption in the way of stop signs or traffic lights, with posted speed limit varying from 40 to 55 in most areas.

From Roxbury we headed south on Barnetts Road, though we lost three riders on the turn-off not realizing that they had fallen behind. (Sorry, guys.) From Barnetts we took a right on Wayside, and then took Wayside west to VA-5, one of the nicer highways in Central Virginia. My favorite view in greater Richmond is when cresting the hill in Lower Rocketts, on a northbound leg of VA-5, and suddenly the city skyline rises up out of the trees. It’s the most abrupt transition from country to city that I know, and no matter how many times I’ve seen it I’m still taken by surprise.

After getting back into town we had lunch at Blow Toad in Carytown. The food and drinks were enjoyed by all.

Just ten-and-a-half hours from now the legendary SEVEN HILLS SCOOTER CLUB will assemble at Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream in Richmond’s edgy-yet-accessible Fan District for another scintillating episode in the continuing series of our First Sunday rides.

Where will we go!? No one can say with certainty.

Where will we end up? Probably some place that involves swimming, so you’d better wear a bathing suit under your armored riding gear, and prepare for an itchy bottom on the ride home.

I’m totally serious. Don’t look at me like that. There’s even a Google Calendar entry.

June’s first Sunday ride with the Seven Hills Scooter Club is tomorrow! Meet at Crossroads Coffee at 6 N Morris Street by 10:30. We hope for an 11am departure from there with our ultimate destination being the Broad Appetit food festival:

Over 60 of Richmond’s very best Chefs will prepare $3 mini-dish favorites for you to enjoy. Each chef will submit their dish to be judged by a panel of experts who will determine who has the “To Die For” Dish of Richmond sponsored by Richmond magazine.

Make sure to be ready to go at 11! The ride will be terrific and the food will be, too!

It’s that time again! The May First Sunday Ride is this Sunday! I know! How can it be May already?

Anyway, meet up at Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream in the Fan between 10:30 and 11, and hopefully we’ll be running on asphalt by noon. Bring your vintage or modern, we don’t care!

The weather forecast for April’s First Sunday Ride is amazing. It’s party cloudy – which means mostly sunny – with temperatures right around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Is that perfect or what?

We meet up around 10:30am in the Fan, at Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream on North Morris Street. The goal is to ride out by 11:30, though truth be told we often don’t leave until noon. Coffee, breakfast, conversation and scooter riding – what could be better?

All two-wheeled motorized conveyances are welcome.

2011, wash over me and rinse the filth of last year off in an effort to start new.

Here we are into another year. On behalf of the officers of the club I hope everyone had a good holiday.

I’d like to first state that we are currently collecting membership dues ($30) for the new year. For anyone who would like to join or renew their membership, please contact us here for information on how to do that or come out and see us at Patrick Henry Pub & Grille Thurday nights at 7:30ish and see one of our officers (Anthony, Ed or Dwayne). Or just come and have a drink with us.

2011 is looking to be a fun year filled with lots of great and interesting rallies all up and down the coast. As a club we will try to attend a few of them (i.e. Cocoa Beach, East Coast Classic, Amerivespa..) and we’ll be hosting our annual camping rally this May, The Dogwood Classic.

A handful of us just came from Durham, NC at Freeze Your Balls Off. We had a great time with The Incriminators, Ton Up NC and all the other clubs that attended. It’s a rally we’ll always attend despite the weather. Yes, balls intact. Nice and toasty.

We’re still hosting our 1st Sunday Rides, the first Sunday of every month at Crossroads in the fan at 10am and I’m sure there will be plenty of impromptu rides here and there.

This kind of came out like a State of the Union address. I didn’t mean it to be. I just wanted to remind everyone that we’re still here and we want all motorized two-wheeled vehicles to join us in anything/everything. Day/night, good/bad weather whatever.
